THE VERGE

Initiating Genesis Project...

It’s Claire’s world, and we’re all just living in it. Ostracised from her family and entirely alone, Claire Archer navigates the confusing realm of her psyche in pursuit of true contentment. Over 100 years on from its first publication, our intermedial adaptation of 'The Verge' sees a woman pushed into obsession today; to interrogate if, in our kaleidoscopic contemporary world, it is really possible to keep hold of reality. Or whether, in the shadow of Claire Archer, we are all dammed to a future on the verge.

Creating The Verge

The Process

When creating this piece we wanted explore how we can use technology to elevate our storytelling. Experimenting with cameras and screens transform how the audience views and experiences the story. We notice the tiny details that are normally missed when simply watching an actor on stage. We had several camera and projection workshops, exploring projecting onto props and how to utilize different camera angles.

Our Experience

In creating this piece, it has been an amazing opportunity to challenge ourselves and push us to develop our creative skills. We have spent the past few months working hard and establishing our collaborative process in order to combine all of our ideas. We have enjoyed exploring how to use different tech and utilising multi-media to modernise our adaption of The Verge. It has been fascinating to observe how simple camera workshops have transformed into fully realised scenes. By coming together as a team, fighting through the tough moments and long days, we have shaped this play into something we are tremendously proud of.
