ROSIE HEPWORTH
ARTIST STATEMENT
Conglomeration
My practice is rooted in the intuitive transformation of found and everyday materials;
objects that naturally enter my life and are repeatedly assembled, dismantled and
reimagined into new sculptural forms. I begin with automatic drawings and paintings,
allowing the unconscious mind to guide my creative process, leading to instinctive
compositions that disrupt aesthetic harmony through spontaneous placement. My work
personifies inanimate objects, extending their lifecycle both materially and symbolically.
By granting agency to discarded or overlooked items, I challenge the notion of single-use
consumption and explore the relationship between the natural and the manmade.
Influenced by British folk art, particularly talismans, shrines and monoliths, I engage in a
ritualistic process of assigning meaning and power to objects through creation. This results
in a maximalist, layered aesthetic: conglomerations of textures and forms that reflect the
tension between chaos and control, utility and beauty. I invite the viewer to reconsider
their relationship with material culture, to find value in the mundane and to recognize the
vitality within everyday objects. My art is both a meditation on sustainability and a
personal mythology crafted through found matter.
