MEEDEA MURIOTI
ARTIST STATEMENT
Medeea Murioti is a Romanian artist based in the
North-West of England. Her painted drawings, assembled to create a collective narrative, explore
mortality and the cyclicity of life through the use of rhythm, repetition
of difference, abstraction and figuration. The human is situated between
primordial states, alluding to creation myths through the natural elements
introduced. The body transmutes into fuel for the consumption of non-human
life, reintegrating it in the ecosystem of death and rebirth.
The works are characterised by the use of
monochromatic colour and a flattening of form, the stripping of
distinct features points to the loss of individuality and uniformization.
Concealment is sought through simplification, putting up a barrier meant
to contrast the inward pull of the work in its physical ensemble. There is
both unification and fragmentation, emphasizing the altering process
demanded by living, of going through space-time as
clusters of matter we are for a short time we are on this earth.
