ARTIST STATEMENT

Sc/sc/sc/inc series

My work aims to connect theoretical geometric concepts to the materials, techniques, and physical appearance of crochet. I utilize algorithmic patterns to create interpretations of geometric forms, whose formal properties become changed and distorted through the individual interactions between my crotchet hook and hand.

The materials that I utilize to create my work are all basic materials that can be found in many households, mainly yarn and cut up aluminum cans. This connects my work back to crochet’s routes as a ‘household craft’. I take modest, unassuming materials and blend them with geometric concepts, rehabilitating them whilst creating complex Fine Art pieces that don’t require a high barrier of material entry.
