DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
Little Book of Slashers takes inspiration from popular contemporary horror icons such as Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) and Michael Myers from Halloween (1978). Using these styles of slashers amongst others, I aimed to create a historical retelling of their portrayals, alongside demonstrating how their aesthetics and characteristics can still be incorporated in modern narratives.
My drive towards this project was seeking an answer to how these icons had become so grounded in popular culture. Through delving into their changing narrative and production design, I was able to recreate killers of my own design which implemented such styles of the decades of contemporary horror they are respectively representing.
This film is produced as part of my practice-based dissertation project.
