Synopsis
I (2024) directed by Samuel Poon, is an experimental film that responds to the themes of how modern life requires people to look at screens constantly, with too much screen time mostly spent indoors and too little time for a social life or going outside to the nature. This kind of lifestyle often leads to burning out or being asocial. It is also a self-reflexive film as it explores or suggests that digital video editing is one of the occupations that are more vulnerable to being burnt out or asocial from looking at screens as it requires the editors to edit in front of a computer for long hours. I features myself, who was the director and editor of the film, and the writer of this essay, looking at different screens, scrolling on social media and editing I on screen.
This film is produced as part of the Experimental Cinema Module.
CAST & CREW
Anysia Hall
Anysia is a third year BA film Studies Student who has been involved in over 15 student films during her time at Lancaster. These have been a number of positions, primarily directing, like Consume (2023) and Fixed on You (2025). She has also been an Exec of the Filmmaking Society. She is passionate about directing and producing. Hannah Moore
I'm 21, Northern Irish and in my final year of studying BA Drama, Theatre and Performance. I'm primarily an actor who has been in a few Lancaster University short films including It’s Just a Parcel, Wish Granted and Behind You. Roshan Adve
Roshan Adve is an undergraduate film student at Lancaster University and an avid sound designer. Having sound designed a whole host of undergraduate dissertation films, Roshan has got both a passion for music and a unique hobby in beatboxing, which he plans to implement in his future goals to be a sound designer and musician. Samuel is not known to be an experimental filmmaker, but he has been involved in over 30 short films during his time in Uni, many of which are also on this year’s LICA Fest website, and he is very much interested to work in either camera or post production departments, with experience with commercial, documentary, sports and event videography and photography.
