DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
I wanted to create this film because I want to challenge conventional portrayals of women in Psychological thrillers, typically painted as weak and reliance on a man to save them. I wanted to contradict this with my protagonist, Maya. Fixed on You (2025) challenges the binary depiction of women as either passive victims or justified avengers. Maya is neither. She is unpredictable, dangerous, and theatrical traits often reserved for male antagonists. The film presents a female character who is empowered through obsession, not redemption. Through controlled aesthetics, minimalist violence, and psychological manipulation, the film interrogates gender, control, and moral ambiguity. Maya does not seek sympathy. She seeks dominance—over her victims, her environment, and the audience. This film is not about what happened to her. It is about who she chooses to be.
This film is produced as part of my practice-based dissertation project.
SYNOPSIS
Fixed on You is a short film that follows the inner world of an emotionally detached and theatrically expressive female killer, Maya. She looks to suppress female weaknesses through her divisive actions.
CAST & CREW
Polly is a 2nd year film and theatre student at Lancaster University and teaches musical theatre at The Performance Studios. She acted as Maya in Fixed on You. Her career goal is to be a film director after finding her passion for the art through studying film as a minor in her first year. She has directed On the Hill a short student film and The Verdict, a Theatre production. She grew up acting as soon as she could walk, and is excited to be a part of Anysia’s directorial journey in Fixed on You.
Sofie played Felicity in Fixed on You. She was in Chasing the Light as Alice, and has worked on various theatre productions for the LUTG. Currently she is playing Belial in The Masque of the Red Death, and she hopes to work in the Stockholm theatre and entertainment industry someday.
Neill Maxwell played Taylor in Fixed on You (2025). Throughout their time at university, they have been a part of various short film projects as an actor, director, cinematographer, and sound designer. His projects include In the Bedroom (2024), Styx and Stones (2025), In Your own Time (2025), and The Projectionist Always Looks Twice (2024)

I'm 21, Northern Irish and in my final year of studying BA Drama, Theatre and Performance. I'm primarily an actor who has been in a few Lancaster University short films including It’s Just a Parcel, Wish Granted and Behind You.

Coming from a background in Fine Art, James first gained filmmaking experience on independent short films in his home city of Manchester. Since becoming an undergraduate film student, James has worked in a variety of roles on dissertation films and hopes to take the skills gained into further work on others and his own independent films.

Sam Sultana is a first year undergraduate student of Film at Lancaster University, who served as Assistant Director for this production. He has worked as Director, Assistant Director and Cinematographer on other student-led productions throughout, and hopes to keep directing and assistant-directing in the future.
Script supervisor
Felicia is a budding filmmaker and actor with a background in Theatre, stage and screen combat. She has worked on over 20 student short films in Singapore and the UK. Her creative projects explore immersive media. She is currently pursuing a career as an intimacy coordinator and script supervisor.

Colourist
Samuel is the DoP, Editor and Colourist for Fixed On You, he has been involved in over 30 short films during his time at University, and very much interested to work in either camera or post production departments, with experience with commercial, documentary, sports and event videography and photography.
Assistant Camera
I'm Leon, a third year film studies student. I have worked on a number of short films primarily in camera work, however, I always look to expand my practice in other roles where possible.
Sound designer
Roshan Adve is an undergraduate film student at Lancaster University and an avid sound designer. Having sound designed a whole host of undergraduate dissertation films, Roshan has got both a passion for music and a unique hobby in beatboxing, which he plans to implement in his future goals to be a sound designer and musician.
Boom
Lily is a first-year undergraduate film student. She has worked on several student film projects since coming to Lancaster University and hopes to continue with projects like these in the future. Lily aims to develop her abilities and gain experience in filmmaking to apply this to future creative roles.
Basmalah Mahmoud
Sound recordist
Basmalah Mahmoud is an undergraduate Film and Creative Writing student at Lancaster University and an eager writer. With a background in sound design, specifically Lavaliere Microphone operating on multiple projects, she hopes to move on into visual work and cinematography in the future, while also developing as a screenwriter and author of original fiction.

I’m a third year Fine Art student with an interest in the visual looks of films including sketching sets, decorating a scene and colour.
Assistant production design
Ellie is a third year Film and Creative Writing student and worked on production design on the set of Fixed on You. She has been part of numerous film projects throughout her time at university and would love to continue in this area, primarily in writing and directing.
Art
Alina is a 2nd Year Architecture student at Oxford Brookes who helped on the film with Art work. She is passionate about drawing and designing. She hopes to continue her journey into Architecture.
Beth Cooper
Makeup artist
Beth Cooper is an undergraduate Film and English Literature student who has a passion for design, who has worked as a makeup artist and production designer on several undergraduate dissertation films. Beth is an enthusiastic artist who hopes to one day work as a production designer for a larger film company.
BTS
I’m a first-year PPE student who also happens to take a tremendous interest in the arts (and film particularly), and so I have been fortunate enough to be scouted by the Fixed on You team in taking BTS photography for this and have gone on to do the same on other dissertation projects— and I hope to do more!
2nd Assistant Camera
Jasper's foundation as a Design student led him to pursue collaborative and creative projects once at University. He brings his passions for creative practice, organisation, and attention to detail in his various roles on projects. He aims to take the skills learned on set into further production roles, as well as into his Design practice.
