ARTIST STATEMENT

My art explores themes of memory and identity. The work stems from a feeling of being lost in adulthood and a desire to reconnect with and preserve my younger self through art. In this series of paintings recalling childhood experiences and a feeling of nostalgia I try to represent moments in time. In these paintings the pixelated surface represents the fragmented nature of memory, the hazy world of recollection. Inspired by the techniques of Chuck Close and Jenny Saville my work I recall the past through the medium of paint through a surface that blurs and fades over time.
