ARTIST STATEMENT
Waterscapes of the Imagined series
My core interests as an artist revolve around the sensual and unfolding states of mind whilst wild swimming, and the unpredictability of water. I work primarily with watercolours to explore this, which involves following a set of intuitive repeated processes to make work that evokes the feeling of flowing through a vast space. The work uses delicate layering and pouring techniques, which encourages colours to ‘pool’ and sit on top of the page until dried, and where eventually unique patterns and forms emerge. The marks are ultimately reminiscent of water as a trace, created by moving through it and leaving flowing lines. Through blending colours and wide painterly strokes of movement, the work encourages the viewer to follow along the dynamic waterscapes and thus feel the captured immediacy of water and paint in their own bodies.
