ARTIST STATEMENT
Consume To Exist
My work critically examines consumer culture and the emotions behind everyday objects. Using fashion, brands, and desire aesthetics, I explore how “value” is created and implanted in our minds. I make handbags from polymer clay that look luxurious but have no practical use, revealing our obsession and anxiety over ownership. Each series varies in form and detail but shares a focus on identity, status, and the social effects of consumerism. During creation, I discover new issues about material identity and personal anxiety, which shape my direction.
